We opened our doors in 1999 when the Regional manager for Spurgeons.org met the Head Teacher of a local primary school. They joined together to respond to an immediate local need of children who were experiencing difficult times having somewhere safe to play after school.
We’d had the best start any charity could have in life. We moved on from Spurgeons.org and became an independent organisation. The first few months were like learning to walk, we were full of hope and optimism, we were tenacious, we stumbled, we fell, we got up, we learnt from our mistakes and we moved forward with confidence.
Our current services are funded by the National Lottery Reaching Communities programme and BBC Children in Need (The Den).
